좌파인 루이스 이나시우 룰라 다 시우바 전 대통령이 10개월 앞으로 다가온 브라질 대선에서 극우 성향의 자이르 보우소나루 현 대통령을 누르고 1차 투표에서 승리할 것이라는 여론조사 결과가 나왔다.
17일 AFP통신은 브라질에서 가장 큰 여론조사기관인 다타폴랴(Datafolha)에서 룰라 전 대통령이 48%의 지지율을 획득해 22%를 얻은 보우소나루를 눌렀다고 보도했다.
두 후보 외 다른 후보들은 두 자릿수에 도달하지 못했다. 세르지우 모루 전 법무장관이 9%, 시루 고메스 전 세아라 주지사가 7%, 주앙 도리아 현 상파울루 주지사가 4%를 득표한 것으로 나타났다.
8%의 응답자가 백지 투표 또는 기권 의사를 밝혔으며 2%는 결정을 내리지 못했다고 데이터폴하 대변인은 밝혔다.
이는 만약 오늘 선거가 실시될 경우 룰라 전 대통령이 1차 투표에서 승리할 수 있는 충분한 표를 얻을 수 있다는 것을 의미한다. 브라질 선거법은 후보자가 유효투표의 절반 이상을 얻도록 규정하고 있다.
지난 9월 실시된 여론조사에서도 룰라 전 대통령은 44%의 득표율로 26%의 보우소나루를 누른 바 있다.
둘 다 공식적으로 출마를 선언하지 않았다.
철강 노동자 출신인 룰라(76)는 2003년부터 2010년까지 브라질을 이끌었다. 그러나 2018년 부패 혐의로 수감되면서 이미지는 심하게 실추됐다.
그는 2019년 석방됐지만 여전히 해당 사건을 음모라고 주장하고 있다.
대법원은 올해 그의 유죄 판결을 무효로 처리해 그가 다시 출마할 수 있도록 조치를 취한 바 있다.
반면 육군 대위 출신인 보우소나루(66)는 불경기와 최근 미흡한 코로나19 대처로 인기가 급락하고 있다.
브라질의 코로나 19 사망자 수는 61만5000명이다. 이는 미국에 이어 전 세계에서 두 번째로 많은 코로나 누적 사망자 수다.
이번 여론조사는 지난 13일부터 16일까지 나흘간 3666명의 유권자로부터 응답을 받았다. 오차범위는 ± 2%포인트다.
